1.5.2017 Peter McGlynn Tournament-News Round Up

On the 30th of April, the Peter McGlynn Tournament took place with many teams from London attending including those from our U6, U8, U10 and U12 (Girls) sections.  It was a great start to the season and Parnells would like to thank Tir Chonaill Gaels as hosts for the day and all the referees who took charge of the games.  The club would like to say thank you to the managers for their time spent in early season training and preparing the players and for their behind the scenes organisation plus the parents for their support.  Some of them have sent in reports and I’m sure the others will follow shortly.  Looks like the players had a great time and well done to them.

U10-Alan Carolan

Well done to the Parnells 2 team today in our first outing this season. The team comprised Joe Evans, Daniel Evans, Matthew Evans, Matthew Cox, Lorcan Moriarty, Michael Butler, Aaron Murphy, Ronan Keran, Oliver Coupland (for part of the tournament) and Tommy Logan.

Despite it being their first blitz for Parnells the Evans brothers, Joe, Daniel and Matthew performed well in all games battling away throughout and giving a very good account of themselves with some good passing, clearances and a number of attempts on goal. Aaron Murphy having just stepped up to Under 10s was busy at all times when on the pitch and competed well and was by no means fazed by the step up. Ronan Keran, reliable as always making some good breaks from midfield in to the attacking zone played well throughout.

Our first game was against Taras 3 and with the rules of 3-points for over the bar and one point for under the boys ran out convincing winners despite a number of wides!

Then came North London Shamrocks and again the boys performed well in what was a tougher encounter but still shaded this match. Lorcan Moriarty showing that having just stepped up to Under 10s he will be well able to play at this level making some great runs from midfield and converting a number of scores.

The third game followed immediately and with no respite the boys took to the field to face St Clarets. This was by far the closest match, Matthew Cox and Oliver Coupland competitive at all times making some good clearances when playing in defence/goal. It was a very evenly fought match and we were unlucky to fall behind to a point that cannoned off one of our defenders on the line and went over the bar! Tommy Logan went in goal for the final third and a number of times came out and helped the defence catching, soloing and clearing the ball superbly up the pitch. The boys kept the pressure on and with the clock ticking were rewarded with a well-deserved equalising point just before the final whistle converted by Michael Butler showing great composure playing in his first blitz and capping off an all-round good performance for the day.

Well done to all!

U6-Peter Cummings

Congratulations to all the players:  Ben, Ciara, Dougie, Erin, Fiachra, Jack C, Jack M, James, Kian and Rosie and a big thank you to the family and friends who came along to support at our first blitz of the season on Sunday.  It was a great day out and our U6 squad who put in an exceptional performance.  The attitude of our players was wonderful with each one of them really throwing themselves into it and enjoying having a turn in each position. They even seemed to enjoy being sub!!
