In one of the closest games this season, Parnells secured the Senior Division 2

League Cup by beating Cu Chullains 0- 10 to 0 – 9.

The narrowest of victories with the game finely balanced point for point with neither team managing to take an extended lead.  The play flowed up and down the pitch with all our players winning excellent ball and defence making some decisive interceptions keeping the opposition at bay but also wasting possession when distribution was key and fortunately for Parnells, Cu Chullains didn’t capitalise on their point scoring opportunities.  By half time, Parnells had a lead of 0-4 to 0-3.  Although Parnells increased their lead by an additional point early on, Cu Chullains had more possession, winning kick outs and piling on the pressure which defensively Parnells soaked up.  Although they were behind in the latter stages of the game by one point; their commitment and heart did not fail them.  Every player put their body on the line and after much effort by the forwards whose movement was relentless, eventually an equaliser and then the winning point was scored.  With everyone’s heart in their mouths as to what would happen in the last few minutes, Parnells managed to keep their lead by cleverly retaining possession until the final whistle was blown.  A grounded out but well deserved victory.

This means promotion back to Division 1 League and maintaining Senior Championship Football for 2018 which the club is really excited about especially with more of our talented youth players able to join the senior ranks.

The U14 team lost the Conrad Ryan Cup final in Greenford; the team was somewhat depleted but a special mention for all the players who participated and made themselves available at the end of the season for this London competition.  The last competition that the Youth will be involved in is the Minor Championship Final and that will be played on November the 4th against St Kiernans.

Our sympathies to the family and friends of Philomena Donoghue of St Anthony’s Club and Parish who recently passed away.

The next main event for the club is the Annual Youth Presentation which is to take place on the 19th of November at Ruislip GAA Clubhouse.  Details available at a later date.

A resounding victory for the Senior Men against Neasden Gaels ensured Senior football next season.  At half time the score line was heading towards a victory at 3-05 to 0-04.  With all players knowing that a win was vital, another goal and more points were added, final score 4-11 to 1-09.

The U16 team were unlucky on Saturday when St Kiernans won the Championship.  The tables were turned after a victory to Parnells in the League a couple of weeks ago.  Two very talented teams battled it out displaying skill, heart and determination.  Although Parnells led at half time, it was a narrow lead of two points.  At the start of the second half St Kiernans made a comeback scoring several points and Parnells were struggling to capitalise on any possession they had but closed the gap to two points and were not giving up.  Nail biting stuff in the last few minutes on both side lines but St Kiernans kept their lead and at the final whistle won 2-08 to 0-11.  Our young players (many U15) can be extremely proud of themselves and how they played.

Parnells Youth would like to congratulate the winner, Eamon Lynam, of our ‘Race for Sam’ competition.
