PRO Notes 11.6.2017 (including U12 Girls report)

After a previously hectic week of games, only one football fixture took place this week which was last Thursday when the Reserve team faced Tara GFC.  Reversing fortunes of a heavy defeat against NLS the week before; the team produced a fantastic performance against Tara and a winning result. This game took on a different intensity and the players were really up for it.  By half time, the scores were mounting up Parnells 2 – 06 to Tara 0 – 01.  The second half of the game saw no let up and the goals were being shared amongst 4 players.  Final score Parnells 7 – 16 to Tara 2 – 03.  Most prolific scorer on the day was JP Roche with 2-05 to his credit.

Training at Northwick Park for the Seniors on Tuesday 7.30 – 9.00pm.  Always happy to welcome new players to an established and sociable club.  Please contact Senior Secretary Dennis Diggins on 07768352680.  Lifts can be arranged.

All age groups up to U14 were playing this week.  Saturday saw sunshine and plenty of football at the Go Games blitz hosted by Gael Londain in Hazlewood.  A marvellous blitz, compliments to the hospitality and organisation of the hosts, where all teams played fantastically and also saw the U12 Boys secure their first silverware winning a cup v Warwickshire with a final score of 3-04 to 1-02.  The U12 Girls also did equally as well winning the Shield and beat St Kiernan’s in their final, see report from Fiona Corrigan below.  The U14’s played Tara in the first League final of the season.  These two teams always enjoy competitive games and this one was no different.  The first half was closely contested and both sides were drawing at half time.  However, Tara hit a purple patch hitting the back of the net in the final quarter.  They were very clinical and made the most of their scoring opportunities.  Congratulations to Tara GFC who won by 8-09 to 3-09.

U12 Girls (by Fiona Corrigan-Manager)
Saturday 10 June saw the U12 girls travel to Gael Londain  under clear blue skies.  Our panel of girls were very excited. We faced tough and competitive games with Tara’s, TCG, St Kiernans & Gael Londain. We narrowly lost games against Tara and TCG, and won against St. Keirnans and Gael Londain., and found ourselves in the Shield Final against St Kiernans.  The girls were taking no risks and as soon as the ball was thrown in Brea Corrigan won the ball well and kicked our first score. Great efforts by everyone and solid teamwork saw us win the Shield.  Outstanding displays of good quality football and team work shone right through the day.  Cracking left foot scores by Orla Lavery, the tough Ruddy sisters showing off their 1-2 skills resulting in a brilliant point; great kick out/saves by sisters Mia & Larah O’Sullivan. Nadine O’Sullivan held the back line tight. Emer Fadian breaking through and finding space and firing the ball over of the bar. New recruit Eva O’Rourkes nerves soon disappeared as her confidence grew offering great support to Brea Corrigan in midfield. Brea reading each the game very well, protected her backs and fired in good steady balls to the forwards and made some fantastic scores.
All girls should be very proud of themselves, they are an absolute credit to Parnells GFC. Our thanks to our hosts Gael Londain and we look forward to Tara’s forthcoming blitz.
