Congratulations to our Junior team who bounced back this week to secure a one point win in the League against Tara’s-2 – 10 to 2-09. A closely contested game with a good team performance and great see a few fresh faces making an impact. The team face Eire Og this week and hope a win could secure a League Semi Final Place. The Senior team will have played Dulwich Harps in League Div. 2 before these notes are published and we wish them well.
The youth U11’s played their round robin games last Saturday. On the hottest day of the year they put in some great performances and look forward to the last round next Saturday in Northwick Park.
Report from Tim Slattery as follows: On a very hot morning at Greenford the under 11s played the penultimate round of league games.
First up was TCG the host team. We were always the stronger team and despite not making full use of our possession we won this game comfortably enough in the end.
Next up was St, Kiernans who provided us with a sterner test. This was a close encounter with some good football played by both teams. In the end St. Kiernans came out on top by the narrowest of margins.
Our final game was against Tara’s, probably our toughest opponents on the day. Strolling on to the pitch our body language did not look good and the heat appeared to be getting the better of some our smaller players on the panel. This malaise continued throughout the game and despite our best efforts on the day we were well beaten.
So lots of work to do but we know we can play much better if we put the work in.
After the games today all the players have committed to focusing and concentrating more at training starting this Wednesday.
The U8’s and 10’s went to Round Towers and enjoyed their round of Go Games. A separate report will be posted from the U8’s manager, Lawrence Wren. Thank you to our hosts and the mentors and parents who made the journey. In Harrow, the U17’s had a resounding victory against St. Clarets with a win of 4 – 20 to 1 – 08 but all eyes were on the Feile teams in Ireland after their great successes last year. We weren’t disappointed as all moved out of their groups, the girls unlucky to lose their game in the quarter final, South London losing their cup final in Div. 1; however, the North London boys were victorious and won the Div. 3 Cup final beating Crosserlough 2 – 07 to 0 – 05. Congratulations to all the London Youth Committee, the mentors, the parents and supporters and to the boys and girls who have trained tirelessly and performed over the weekend to a level that made everyone justifiably proud of them.
The next 2 weeks see a busy calendar of football for the club. The men’s teams are still competing in the League and see the Championship start off in August. The Youth Committee and managers are working hard to prepare for the forthcoming ABC’s in Greenford which is a great weekend of football and hurling for all our young players and a busy time for parents. The Club would like to thank everyone involved for their continued support.
