Parnells London County Players Round Up

The season came to an end for the London County teams with different degrees of success but all players proudly represented their county (and club).

Senior

Both Josh Obahor and Tighe Barry had great success with London.  Josh played regularly as a first team player pick and Tighe (his first season with the Seniors) also had plenty of game time and impacted the game when he took to the field.  Their Senior campaign finished off with participation in the Tailteann Cup, some of the games didn’t go London’s way but they secured a fantastic win v Offaly in May beating them 2-20 to 0-12.  There is no doubt that it was a long season for all the London players with training, travel and games.  As a club we are extremely proud of them both and hope next year they have further success.

Junior

The Junior team clinched the All Britain Provincial title with a win in the final v Warwickshire and went on to participate in the All- Ireland Junior Championship in Dublin.  The first game was a win by a point in Abbottstown in a closely contested match, 1-08 to 0-10 (US GAA), which saw London play New York in Croke Park the next day.

The team/squad contained numerous Parnells players who had shown unwavering commitment to the County for much of the early season.  Some were hampered by injury but that did not deter them, such was their ambition to secure a London win.  The players were as follows:  Ryan Forde (London Captain), Frazer Beckles, Donnacha Byrne, Ciaran Griffin, Conor Griffin, Darragh Griffin, Eoghan Reilly, Connor Spinks and Niall Twomey.

Friends and family travelled to support them and there were many on this side of the Irish Sea watching on a Youtube link.  Unfortunately, New York won the game by a single point, 0-13 to 0-12.  London came very close towards the end of the second half with a strong finish and injury prevented some of our players playing a full game but every single man in a London jersey gave their all.  It was devastating when the final whistle was blown but I am sure London will see another final soon and the outcome will be different!

Youth:  U15/U17

Parnells had a number of players represent their club on the County development squads.  They should all be very proud of their achievments, particularly the U17 players who participated in the All Ireland Minor game on Connacht.  A first for London and a great stepping stone for their future development.  Well done.
