Match Reports-Danny Twomey- U17 Development League 2017

4th March 2017.

Venue:  Greenford

Parnells Vs NLS/ Clarets / TCG combination.

Parnells under 17s made an historic first appearance in this newly formed age group and competition. Our opponents were a NLS/Clarets/TCG Combination. Despite inevitable rustiness the Parnells young men really hit the ground running. Intensity was the buzz word with our attacking of the ball being the foundation for a comfortable victory. The trio of Josh Obahor, Luke Horgan and Harry Logan showed all of their leadership qualities, whilst the younger brigade responded in fine form. Ciaran Griffin and Conal White stationed respectively at top of the right and left were superb. Two talented young men who on the day seemed ravenous to the first ball. Daniel Maguire and Conor Doran in the full back line also excelled.

To be fair to our opponents, the fact that they are a newly formed amalgamation meant that cohesive play is something that was lacking somewhat at present. Enough evidence was gleaned from this contest however to know that under the tutelage of men like Denis McCarthy and Martin Hession and others it is only a matter of time before results will show.

Well done lads. Cobwebs blown away now the real work begins.

11th March 2017.

Venue:  St Paul’s Academy Dulwich.

Dulwich Harps – 3-9  V  Parnells – 5-6

The day was fine as Dulwich and Parnells under 17s locked horns on the synthetic surface at St Paul’s Academy in South London. Parnells were on fire in the first half especially and the usual suspects of Joshua Obahor and Luke Horgan were in rampant form. The placing of Liam Bakry at midfield was central to what became a narrow victory over difficult opponents. This young man is a fine addition to our club and his tackling and intensity to the ball are fantastic. The first half belonged to Parnells with some at times scintillating stuff on offer. Victory was secured within this period.

The second half though was a different story. Dulwich do as Dulwich do, they keep going. Parnells lost their way in the second period and disappointingly registered no score from play in the entire half. A cause for concern to management. A special mention to the superb Harry Logan stationed at full back and marking the Dulwich danger man, a fantastic composed exhibition of defending.

On the plus side Liam Tailor and Patrick Peach in goal were in great form. Luke McHugh gave a fine contribution in the backs and later the forward line. Man of the Match though for me was Eamon Kane whose anticipation and all round play was first class. Two penalties from Luke Horgan were our only recorded scores in the second half and indeed but for a great performance from Patrick Peach between the sticks this game could have been lost. A big thank you to Eoghan Riley and Niall Twomey (2 fourteen year olds) who stepped in to fill the gap left by a number of late absentees. Both never looked out of place. Lewis Dickinson also showed up well.  In summary, any win is a good win. Especially against a strong Dulwich team.

It was evident however and understandable that rustiness and fitness was a big reason for our second half under-achievements. It is essential therefore that all players attend training from now on. The season has begun in earnest and with a big squad and many other fine players available to pick from it is a fact, nobody’s place is guaranteed. Well done Lads now time for the hard yards.
