Congratulations to our U18 team who won the London League title on Saturday. Late afternoon Parnells and TCG/Tara took to the field in a long awaited contest. All the supporters eagerly anticipated a close game and that was what it proved to be. TCG/Tara got off to the better start and opened the score line within the first minute and had more possession initially with their forwards out in front meeting the ball. Parnells slowly found their rhythm and equalised and then quickly added scores and kept the lead to half time (1-04 to 1-02). Injury and a black card towards the end of the second half forced the management to make changes and the team lined out differently.
TCG were quick off the mark again but suddenly Parnells upped a gear and took command scoring 8 points without response. Great defensive work and fluidity of movement and accurate scores meant that within the first 20-25 mins Parnells took a lead of 1-12 to 1-03. TCG didn’t give up and played with tenacity and determination to make a comeback. Pressure was piled on in all areas of the field, TCG added 3 points to their tally. It could have been more but defensively we were solid and our goalkeeper made a couple of key saves. Parnells didn’t panic and saw the game out until the final whistle winning the title 1-12 to 1-06. All players were to be commended on a great entertaining game and both management teams can be justifiably proud of their team’s performances.
Separate report to follow
The U12 Girls played in the first Underage Championship and were unlucky not to take home any silverware, well done to all who played. Another extremely important game this weekend when the U16 team plays St Kiernans in the Championship final. After a hard fought victory for the boys in the League they will be looking forward to this meeting. The Senior Men’s team are also playing one of the most critical games of the season when they face Neasden Gaels in a relegation play off. Best of luck to all.
